Yoga for cancer patients/survivers

I know from about 3 years of not exercising or not physicially doing much of anything, I am very out of shape. I get really tired. I realize some of the tired may never go away but I wanted to try to get better.
Because I am supposed to gain weight, I was afraid to try exercsing because I always lost weight when I did that. I cannot afford to loose more weight.

I was told about a women who gives yoga instructions to cancer patients. She will also do a one on one appointment and takes pictures of you while you are doing the poses. I thought that sounds good. Stretching is a good start.

On Saturday I had the individual Yoga session. She showed me what I could do at home. She showed me how to do the pose, then had me do it and took pictures of me doing the positions! It was great. She said she would send me written instructions with the photos of me in the positions. She said she thinks it helps people remember to which pose that the written instructions are referring. I agree, I would not remember some of the names of the poses.
She said I can call her if I have any questions on these, and when I am ready, I can call her for another appt. When we were leaving, the receptionist asked if I wanted to make another appt with her. I laughed and said not yet. Dale said, “She has enough for now and a ways to go to do these, give her time.”
I was tired when we were finished. I felt tired muscles the next day. But I also felt good!
I hope everyone is having good days.
Hugs and prayers, Sandyjo

tomd917, pen like this post.

Good luck with future classes. I miss exercising like I used to do.

Johnny and I do Yoga once a week, and we swear by it. We did Yoga before the Cancer, and now it’s helped him gain back some of the muscle mass that he lost during treatment. It’s a very beneficial low-impact form of exercise. Good luck, and enjoy!

Yoga is harder than it looks. I’m gonna be back at the gym in a couple weeks and I’ll only do Yoga for a while:) Keep it up!

I think she gave me easy stuff to start. I can feel the muscles whne I do it.

This sounds great. Thanks, Sandyjo! What a good idea with the photos. When I took the yoga teacher training course it was in part so that I could teach yoga to other cancer patients. I haven’t made a move on doing that yet, but this is good inspiration.
I’m glad you’re well enough to start exercising again. I hope you are able to gain weight successfully!

I hope you do teach other cancer patients. She started by just talking to me to get an idea what I can and can’t do. I like the idea of me in the photos. She said others commented that it helped ‘jog their memory’. There are plenty of written instructions incase some parts of what was done is lost due to chemo brain or whatever. She also listed which to do daily ‘including Sundays’ and which to do everyother day (Mon thru Sat) or even twice a week til I get better at them.
I know I need the exercise and get some muscle so I will be happy to just maintain my weight.
Cheers, Sandyjo

It’s great to hear you being enthusiastic about movement, Sandyjo.
For some reason I find Yoga too hard, but I am liking Pilates.
Anything to keep moving, forward and surviving.
Hugs, Nicole
